Governance
Coimisiún na Meán was established on 15 March 2023 further to the provisions of the Online Safety and Media Regulation (OSMR) Act 2022. On that date, all functions that were vested in its predecessor organisation, the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, were transferred to the new organisation. We operate primarily in accordance with the Broadcasting Act 2009.
Ensuring good governance across the organisation is a key responsibility for the Commission, which is the decision-making body of Coimisiún na Meán. This is fundamental to the delivery of our first draft Strategy Statement which seeks to “provide clear leadership and direction to our staff, the ecosystem in which we operate and our peer regulators, whilst ensuring that we establish and hold ourselves to the highest standards of governance and accountability.”
The organisation adheres to the requirements of the Code of Practice for the Governance of State Bodies, and we report to the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media in that regard.
