Video-on-demand

Coimisiún na Meán is responsible for regulating audiovisual on-demand media (video-on-demand) services established in Ireland.

Video-on demand refers to video content which can be selected by the viewer from a catalogue of programmes offered by the service providers to watch at a moment chosen by them.

These include a range of video-on-demand services including those operated by Public Service Media Organisations such as RTÉ Player and TG4 Player and other commercial services such as, Virgin Media Play, Eir TV, Vodafone TV Play, YouTube Movies & TV, Apple TV+ and URC TV.

Register of Media Service Providers

We maintain a Register of Media Service Providers which provides details of video-on-demand providers established in Ireland, and of the service(s) provided. This Register is subject to updates, changes and amendments on a continuing basis.

Guidelines and Rules

We have developed Guidelines for media service providers on how to notify us that they are operating an audiovisual on-demand service, along with Registration Rules.
