Codes & Rules

Broadcasting and video-on-demand

As Ireland’s media regulator, Coimisiún na Meán makes regulations (referred to as Codes & Rules) to govern the standards and practices of broadcasters and video-on-demand platforms.

The Codes & Rules cover a wide range of matters, including fairness, objectivity and impartiality in news and current affairs reporting, rules for advertising and sponsorship, the protection of audiences from harmful content, and ensuring that the media services being provided are accessible to the public.

Who do the Codes & Rules apply to?

Codes & Rules for broadcasting apply to television and radio broadcasters who are based in or operate from Ireland.

Codes & Rules for video-on-demand apply to video-on-demand platforms based in Ireland.
