Recruitment Frequently Asked Questions
When vacancies arise, we post them on our current vacancies page. To apply for a role, please follow the steps outlined on the job posting. We currently partner with external agencies to manage our recruitment. You will be directed to our recruitment partner’s website to complete a short application form and upload your cover letter and CV. Note: we do not accept speculative applications.
Once the closing date has passed, we will review all applications received. Our recruitment partners will contact you shortly after the shortlisting process has been finalised to let you know if you are being invited to the next stage of the process.
You can apply for as many positions as you want. If you see a position you feel you are suitable for, please follow the application process as described above.
Coimisiún na Meán are committed to championing a diverse, inclusive and equitable workplace that reflects modern Irish society. We aim to foster a culture where everyone is treated fairly and is set up for success. This applies to the recruitment process also. If you have been selected for interview and wish to request a reasonable accommodation to help you perform your best, please contact [email protected].
We are informed by public sector pay policy and therefore the salary is not negotiable. The salary scale relevant to the role will be stated in the candidate information pack.
If you are successful, you will commence on the first point of this scale. The only exception to this rule is if your current (or most recent employer) is also part of the civil service/public sector, in which case you may request the salary you have been offered to be reviewed. As part of this salary review process, we will ask you to provide a letter from your current/most recent employer detailing your salary and grade. We will then review this to determine if your experience is analogous and if your salary point should be adjusted.
All roles are advertised for a minimum of two full weeks. The closing date and time is stated on the job advertisement and is strictly adhered to. Unfortunately, if you want to apply but the closing date has passed, we cannot accept your application. This is to ensure fairness to all candidates.
If you experience technical issues when applying for a role you should contact the recruitment team at [email protected]
Coimisiún na Meán uses a competency-based approach to conducting interviews. The areas you will be assessed on in the interview are listed in the candidate information pack. When you are invited to interview you will be sent the information pack to help you prepare. Please see here for further guidance on how to prepare for competency- based interviews.
For roles up to and including Higher Executive Officer level, there will typically be one round of in-person interviews at our offices in Shelbourne Road, Dublin. For roles at Assistant Principal Officer level and above, there will typically be two rounds. The first round will be usually held remotely via video call and the second round will be in person in our offices. The second round will usually involve a presentation – the details of which will be provided in advance of your interview.
You will be notified of the result of the process as soon as possible, after all interviews for the position have taken place. If you are offered a role, this offer will be subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks. These checks include references from previous employers, validation of qualifications and conflict of interest declaration.
For some competitions, once the highest scoring candidate has been hired, a panel of successful candidates (in order of merit) may be formed. If the same type of vacancy arises within the active duration of the panel, the position will be offered to the candidate who obtains first place on the panel. If they decline, offers will be made in order of merit until the new vacancy is filled. Our panels are typically active for six months, and on occasion, 12 months.
