Sustainability

We will put sustainability at the heart of how we manage and inhabit our physical space, how we use our scarce resources, and how we support the development of sustainable practices by those we regulate.

We are aware of our responsibility in the fight against climate change and believe it is important to reduce the impact of media production on the environment.

Leading by example, we will:

  • work with stakeholders to contribute towards a reduction in Ireland’s overall carbon emissions, in line with the Government’s Climate Action Plan;
  • promote and adopt sustainable practices wherever we can, by supporting our Green Team to deliver on our annual climate action mandate; and
  • provide green training and support for the media sector.

Since our formation we have:

  • published our first Climate Action Mandate which demonstrates our commitment to reducing our impact; and
  • created a Green Team, so that colleagues can contribute to our company efforts and hold the organisation to account.

Our work with the media sector

From 2025, Coimisiún na Meán will become the Irish territory partner for BAFTA albert, the leading screen industry organisation for environmental sustainability. Together, we will support the Irish film and TV industry to reduce the environmental impacts of production and create content that supports a vision for a sustainable future. The albert carbon calculator will allow us to understand the carbon footprint of the media sector and implement plans to reduce it over the coming years.

We encourage sustainability in our own work practices as well as in the screen industry in Ireland. We are members of Sustainable Media Ireland, a group which brings the Irish media sector together to learn, share knowledge and partner on sustainability initiatives and campaigns.
